Hi, Richard – this is Laura from the WGR team.

We found this in the book, Telling Yourself the Truth by William Backus and Marie Chapian on pg. 31.

They don’t give the entirety of Moody’s speech. But the quote from the book is: “DL Moody once said that the best way to show that a stick is crooked is not to argue about it or to spend time denouncing it, but to lay a straight stick alongside it.”

Work well done takes your breath away. . . . Been thinking about this ever since I read this about a week ago. It’s a constant struggle for me to put thoughts into well-crafted/concrete expression. I’m often tempted to leave the expression of an idea half finished because it is already worked out in my head. The excitement of the idea is somewhat “played out”. However, I am discovering another excitement of a work well crafted.

I learned about the link between craft, beauty, and wisdom in church last Sunday. And then there was an invitation for us to pray for each other’s craft. I was astounded. This has been on my heart as a place of lack but also a place of great communication and expression of God’s wisdom and beauty. Thanks for your words
